Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a senior Biologist.
Responsibilities
Defineand execute new research plans in biological technologies, develop new programs and external sponsorship, and help build a highly regarded research team.Help define and execute new research programs in bio-related areas, especially for applications to DoD and Department of Homeland Security. Cultivate external sponsors and help generate externally funded programs. Help recruit and continue building a highly regarded team in APL Research Center. Mentor junior researchers.Continue individual involvement in R&D, high quality publications, professional activities, and intellectual property development. Interact with the rest of APL and academic divisions of Johns Hopkins University (School of Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Engineering, etc.) to help define and develop interdisciplinary programs.
Qualifications
Required:Ph.D in the biological sciences; e.g., Biochemistry, Molecular & Cell Biology. Minimum of 10 yr work experience after Ph.D. Strong publication record and reputation in Science &Technology community. Demonstrated ability to obtain funding from government sponsors (especially Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, & Department of Health and Human Services) and to manage research programs effectively. Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Cell signaling processes (e.g., bacterial communication), biofilms, pathogen and toxin interactions, proteomics, presymptomatic diagnostic methods, immunology, chemical metabolism, and bio applications of nanotechnology. Desired:Demonstrated ability to work at the seams of several technical areas and to build and manage interdisciplinary teams. High-level recognition in professional community.
Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
