POSITION TITLE: Building Maintenance Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Operations
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB: To secure services to meet departmental needs for physical aspects of daily
operations, maintenance repairs, renovations and new construction, the Building Maintenance Engineer requires
competencies in three main areas: technical skill, staff management and program management.
Technical Skill: Possess wide ranging technical skills such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry and HVAC to
ensure the general maintenance of the building facilities of all sites is completed correctly and in step with current
building regulation codes and procedures.
Staff Management: Provide leadership to a diverse staff of less than 10 individuals. Manage staff to acquire technical
skills while upholding excellent customer service standards.
Project Management: Manage, plan, coordinate and monitor the physical, environmental and security conditions
through the coordination of related services with appropriate departments or outside organizations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Monitor, inspect and recommend all technical building maintenance including but not limited to plumbing,
electrical work, carpentry, HVAC and related engineering tasks.
• Determine priorities for the enhancement, repair and modification of building facilities and equipment.
• Solicit proposals and/or bids from alternative service providers where appropriate and make
recommendations for optimal selection.
• Make work assignments and coordinate multiple maintenance trade activities where appropriate.
• Coordinate and supervise set-up and take-down of building areas, equipment and furniture for special
events.
• Recommend various personnel actions for assigned employees including, but not limited to, hiring,
performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
• Develop plans for enhancement as well as ongoing and preventive maintenance of facilities.
• Plan annual budget and schedule all facility modifications including cost estimates.
• Oversee transportation and parking program.
• Manage maintenance of classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, common space, and kitchens in a
clean and healthful condition.
• Obtain cost estimates on custodial supplies, maintenance materials and equipment, and recommend timely
purchase consistent with CentroNía’s procurement polices and procedures.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
• Ability to oversee and inspect the majority of technical work
• Experience managing a diverse, customer oriented staff
• Fluent/ Conversational in English and Spanish
• Experience managing multiple sites
• Understanding of Educational Facility building requirements (preferable)
• Experience in project management and scheduling

REQUIRED LICENSES: Valid driver’s license, licenses in plumbing, electrician, carpentry, HVAC,
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) are preferred but may be substituted for advanced training or experience.
