Description The Air Force Studies Board (AFSB) serves as a convening authority for the discussion of science and technology issues of importance to the Air Force and oversees independent ad hoc studies conducted by NRC committees. The Board works with the Air Force leadership to develop study projects in response to the annual Air Force call for studies. The board also reviews committee member nominations, and participates in ad hoc committee study activities as committee members. The Associate Program Officer will work with senior staff to identify and recruit potential committee and panel members; facilitate information between staff, committee and panel members, and sponsors; prepare monthly/quarterly technical reports as required; identify and gather relevant research data; conduct background research; synopsize and edit research and technical data; determine data relevance for study purpose; prepare background papers and technical summaries. Organize meetings; develop agendas, recruit presenters and speakers; prepare written meeting summaries. Coordinate the study publication process including editing draft text, oversee peer review process, and participate in dissemination activities including the identification of interested and relevant audience; preparation of dissemination materials, and conducting dissemination meetings. Create, maintain, and update project files, records, and databases. Represent the project within and outside the Academies and collaborate with experts and sponsors from government agencies, foundations, schools, and other organizations.
