CPB is currently seeking to hire a Business Planning and Operations professional reporting to the Director, Operations in the Executive Office.
General Description
To manage and/or execute processes, initiatives and projects that support CPB’s Executive Office, the Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and grant-making departments related to annual planning, procurement, contract development/management, quality improvement, research, budgeting, analysis, and reporting functions; and, to act as a resource, providing guidance and expertise for ensuring understanding and compliance with CPB’s established contracting/concurrence policies and procedures.

Specific Duties
· Supports the development of the annual business plan. This involves regular communication with various departments across the organization regarding process and expectations, gathering and organizing information and researching proposed projects, and editing this information into a cohesive format for senior management and our Board of Directors. Reviews and maintains awareness of selected CPB projects/activities that are critical to the business plan or of significant relevance to the EO/COO throughout the year. As required, prepares Board updates and ad hoc reports.
· Supports the execution of budget-related activities for the Office of the COO and all reporting departments. This includes, but is not limited to, gathering budget requests and forecasts throughout the fiscal year; evaluating and aligning submissions against the annual business plan; and ensuring proper reporting of expenses and spending progress for projects. Works with budget managers in grant-making departments and OBF to ensure appropriate record keeping and reporting and keeps the Executive Office informed of changes during the course of the fiscal year.
· Acts as the project manager for specific assigned Executive Office projects and initiatives to ensure their effective and efficient execution and completion. Performs procurement, contracting, and close out processes, ensuring that all project expectations have been met and any required documentation, necessary policies, and/or any other follow-up requirements and processes are finalized and executed.
· Facilitates the establishment of departmental and corporate-wide metrics and other benchmarks to effectively measure and assess the success and performance of projects, activities and/or initiatives against defined outcomes and relative to corporate policies and procedures. Creates and uses various tools for organizing, tracking and reporting information.
· Works with the Director of Operations to establish and maintain a Quality Improvement System. Identifies trends, prioritizes and recommends methods to decrease duplication, error and rework rates. Develops measures to track effort, productivity and customer satisfaction. Works with departments to recommend approaches to improving quality, helps write quality standards, maintains monitoring procedures and creates formal workflows.
· Develops, prepares and issues reports that provide information and analysis, including status and outcomes, related to established objectives and goals for all departments reporting to the COO. Establishes appropriate measures and monitors CPB’s productivity and effectiveness around grant-making and other key operations.
· Serves as a resource and guide for other CPB staff in order to assist and advise them on compliance with grant making, concurrence, and contracting policies and procedures. Assists with identifying relevant best practices, quality standards and internal training needs and prepares appropriate resources for use in training.
Other Duties
· Works with the Director of Operations to ensure the development, dissemination and adherence to clear and efficient processes for activities between the Office of the COO and other departments and across the organization.
· Assists with conducting operations-focused meetings, developing agendas, recording outcomes, and summarizing results. Follows up with departments to ensure timely completion of action items.
· Reviews and assists in the preparation of CPB management responses to requests from the Board and the Office of the Inspector General. Maintains awareness of major issues and topics facing the Board and assists the COO and Director on Board-related preparations, as needed.
· Leads and/or participates in special projects, as needed, including, but not limited to, conducting research; conducting process analysis and establishing appropriate processes; developing and editing corporate policies, procedures and guidelines; and, executing project planning and implementation.
· Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
· Five years experience working in a business environment with responsibilities in areas such as project management; grants or contract administration and/or management; procurement; planning; budget development and/or management; financial/business planning, reporting and analysis; research; and, policy and process development.
· Solid understanding of financial, budget, and business planning processes, as well as performance metrics, progress tracking and reporting.
· Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency related to project management and the execution of all phases of the project process (e.g., establishing goals, planning, organizing, and managing resources and budgets). Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects and use project management tools and resources.
· Strong organization and time management skills, as well as analytical capabilities and an attention to detail.
· Solid communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly a demonstrated proficiency in business writing. Must have the ability to translate complex, technical, and/or quantitative information into clear, concise, and understandable documents.
· A professional corporate presence with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels, internal and external to CPB.
· Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret, manage, and organize data for clarity and efficient access and usage.
· Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
· Results oriented, with a demonstrated ability to quickly synthesize information and act upon it with a sense of urgency and within established deadlines.
· Demonstrated technical/computer proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), and familiarity with database and project management programs, such as Access and Project.
Desired Qualifications
· Master’s Degree (preferably an MBA or similar) or equivalent experience in decision tools and management-focused analysis and reporting.
· Knowledge of public broadcasting industry
· Experience in a nonprofit organization and/or grant-making experience.
