Job Description   

There are currently a limited number of teaching positions open for the spring 2010 Evening High School Session. Evening High School will be held at Annapolis High School, Glen Burnie High School, Meade High School, Northeast High School and South River High School.   Teachers must make a commitment to be present for the ENTIRE program including all inservice days, workdays, and student instructional days.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

These examples are illustrative and not all inclusive:Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the School Improvement Plan.Plans and prepares lessons, assignments, and instructional materials.Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.Prepares, administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results.Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including, but not limited to, lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multi-media teaching aids to present subject matter to students.Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques.Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise.Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary.May serve on special committees.Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities.Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Regulation.Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods.Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections.Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

The following areas will be considered by the individual Lead Administrator at Evening High School:

- The applicant's present teaching position
- Certification in the subject area for which the applicant is applying
- The recommendation of the applicant's current day-school principal
- Sufficient student enrollments to justify the class being offered (the minimum size is 12 students)
- Successful teaching
 in the Secondary Evening High School Program. However, there are no guarantees, expressed or implied, that a previously hired teacher will be hired again.
- Must be able to work with a diverse population.
