POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


Title:                 Part-Time Library Assistant (10 hrs/week)


Location:          Washington Office


Salary:             $14.00 to $15 .00 an hour - based on education and experience



 Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations is an independent national membership organization and a nonpartisan center for scholars dedicated to producing and disseminating ideas so that individual and corporate members, as well as policymakers, journalists, students, and interested citizens in the United States and other countries can better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other governments.
 CFR does this by convening meetings where prominent thinkers debate and discuss the major issues of our time; conducting a wide-ranging studies program; publishing Foreign Affairs, the preeminent journal covering international affairs and U.S. foreign policy; maintaining a diverse membership; sponsoring independent task forces; and providing up-to-date information about the world and U.S. foreign policy on the Council's website, cfr.org. CFR is headquartered in New York with a beautiful, new state-of-the-art office in Washington, DC, located only two blocks from the White House.


The Library provides access to books, journals and databases to support research conducted at the Council.  The Assistant will be the Library's representative for the CFR staff in the Washington, DC, building and assume responsibility for liaison, borrowing and tracking materials from local libraries.


The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):


Processing requests for journal articles, books, and archival materials, photocopying, sorting, filing and mailing. Retrieving books and articles from local libraries.


Performing routine circulation monitoring, including renewing books upon request, tracking when materials are due and notifying staff borrowers.


Assisting Library staff in testing intranet, database and publication access in the Washington offices.


Working with librarians to identify and evaluate research sources for CFR.org and intranet.


Preferred Qualifications:


Familiarity with bibliographic databases (library catalogs, article databases, etc.), library work experience a plus


Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet
Strong attention to detail and sharp organizational skills
Ability to work independently
