DAI’s Energy and Climate Change Practice is seeking to hire a full-time Senior Development Specialist for its team based at DAI Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. The Energy/Power Specialist will report to the DAI’s Energy and Climate Change Manager and will be required to conduct short-term overseas technical assignments and assist with business acquisition.

Responsibilities:

• Conducting research and analysis and producing reports and briefings on electricity sector policies and regulations, clean technology development, and climate change impacts;
• Supporting ongoing projects through technical oversight, and provide on-site technical inputs to efforts overseas;
• Conducting business development market research, data collection, and analysis on key countries and donor-funded projects; and
• Expanding the portfolio by assisting in proposal development, including recruiting staff.

DAI is looking for an individual who is committed to pursuing a career in energy and international development and who has already developed professional skills in energy. The ideal candidate will have expertise in several of the following areas:
• Electricity policy and planning, regulatory and utility management and reform, understanding of government policies impacts on generation, transmission and distribution and renewable energy development.
• Renewable and energy efficiency technology evaluation, economic analysis, and financing.
• Small-scale/rural/off-grid power technology, market and enterprise development.
• Climate change modeling, vulnerability assessment and adaptation.
• Energy experience with USAID, multilaterals or other donors is a plus; and
• Experience in developing country context is a plus.


Basic Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
• MBA or Masters Degree in an appropriate discipline and at least 8 years relevant experience including experience in developing countries.
• Technical undergraduate degree in engineering.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and motivation skills.
• Strong written English skills– technical writing and editing – and oral presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment.

Applicants with project management experience, hands-on experience in electricity, renewable resource evaluation, and other pertinent skills are encouraged to provide details of such skills and experience.
