CPB is currently seeking to hire a Director, Innovation reporting to the SVP, Diversity and Innovation in the Executive Office.
General Description
Provides and delivers the strategic vision established for Diversity and Innovation as a primary CPB liaison in innovation programming. Develops and services relationships within the public broadcasting system as well as with major groups and organizations focused on public media innovation and cultural diversity.
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Interactions Outside Department (with whom and why)
Internal: Frequent interactions and collaberations with internal CPB teams to manage the development of new and creative diverse innovation strategies. Collaborates with CPB in the development and analysis of grant initiatives.
External: Represents CPB in continuing to develope and foster relationships in expanding innovation awareness within the public broadcasting systems. Delivers new initiatives in diversity programs through various venues.
Specific Duties:
· Represents CPB at the highest levels of the public broadcasting systems, as well as with key leadership and other stakeholders, to champion innovation and inclusion in programming, digital technology, and workforce recruitment and development designed to increase public broadcasting’s relevance to an increasingly heterogeneous America.
- Collaborates within CPB to incorporate innovation and inclusions into the CPB policies, planning and operations. Ensures that the values of diversity engagement, inclusion , respect and cultural competence, are shared and applied thoughout the organization. Works with other departments to foster collaberation around innovation to confirm our efforts are fully leveraged across the CPB organization.
- Seeks and identifies innovative ideas and develops projects and activities focusing on system goals of high-quality innovating programs targeted to meet the needs and interests of public broadcasting community at large.
- Fosters the ongoing development and continued enhancement of CPB’s relationships within the public broadcasting system as well as with major groups, organizations focused on cultural diversity and CPB’s Innovations.
- Provides direction to the Corporate and Publication Affairs department to ensure CPB has a communication strategy to influence and encourage commitment to CPB’s innovation and inclusion objectives and initiatives.
Other Duties:
- Establishs evalution processes to gather and monitor feedback from target groups and other relevant data sources to measure and assess the impact of CPB’s innovation and inclusions strategies within CPB and across the system. Assists in preparing reports for the CPB leadership, including the CPB Board and others key public broaddcasting stakeholders as requested.
- Monitors innovation initiatives within the commerical and public service media industries as they relate to diversity in programming and community services and outreach.
Required Qualifications: (Education and Experience)
· College degree in a related field (e.g. communications, liberal arts.)
· Minimum five years experience in relationship building/marketing/managing in media, technology, community programming and education. Requires a substantial proven history to include the development and management of diversity-based projects and activities.
· Demonstrated ability to develop creative innovations in working with established partners in the respective fields.
· History of building creditibility/strong relationships in the broadcasting, programming, and production communities, public broadcasting in particular.
· Demonstrated commitment to public broadcasting's mission and values.
· Excellent interpersonal communications, writing, and analytical skills. Strong presentation, persuation, and consensus-building skills to maintain effective relationships with diverse business partners and staff.
· Experience forging new relationships in multicultural environment.
· Ability to travel extensively, which may exceed 25% of the time.
Desired Qualifications:
- Professional experience at a media arts organization, broadcast station, state network, production house or distribution organization in public broadcasting.
- Experience working in television programming and production or relevant content production field where established diversity programs exist.
- Experience working in national and local outreach projects within the public broadcsasting systems.
