Director of Product Development


Phase2 Technology is seeking a Director of Product Development to provide strategic leadership and technical expertise to grow the Phase2 re-usable product offerings, client base, reputation, awareness of applicable markets, and capabilities. Products and service offerings center on two main areas: (1) website/web application development starting with the Drupal open source, content management system; (2) custom business applications using Java or Ruby on Rails.


What you could do for us



  • Develop cost/benefit analysis and revenue forecasts for individual products and projects, as well as the division as a whole

  • Budget the cost for prospective product efforts and provide post-delivery cost analysis for completed or on-going projects

  • Work closely with various teams in the company and help develop guidelines, processes and procedures, technology and architecture strategy for the ongoing evolution of existing products such as Tattler (built on Buzz Monitor) and Open Publish, as well as for the development of new products

  • Introduce Phase2 to new clients; form and manage new partnerships with complimentary organizations through networking and attendance at industry events

  • Manage the delivery of high-end software products and packaged solutions to our customers


Your qualifications need to be



  • Masters Degree in Business Administration or Computer Science

  • At least 2 years exp. as a software architect focusing on development with the Drupal content management system in a LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) environment, demonstrated through both:

    • the development of high-quality, professional-looking web sites

    • AND contributions to the Drupal content management system in the form of contributed modules and core development



  • 2 years supervisory experience

  • 1 year exp. in Java/J2EE or Ruby on Rails architecture and development using development methodologies such as extreme Programming (XP), and phased iterative methodology such as the Rational Unified Process (RUP)

  • 1year exp. in high scale systems design and architecture, especially distributed and Internet-facing systems with demanding performance and scalability requirements

  • 1 year exp. working with/on behalf of software end users in one of the following roles: training, consulting, business analysis

  • 1 year exp. and demonstrated understanding of business practices in one or more of the following industries: publishing (periodicals), non-governmental organizations, professional associations

  • 1 yr exp. working with the sentiment monitoring tool/service Buzz Monitor

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with team members and clients

  • Proven ability to manage time while working on a variety of tasks

  • An interest in learning new technologies and practices when applicable

  • Willingness and attitude to help customers find workable solutions

  • Experience may be gained concurrently
