About the Job
As the Director of Business Development at OPOWER you will both conceive of and lead the execution of our core strategy for structuring, managing, and driving revenue through partnerships that broaden OPOWER's suite of product offerings and expand our reach in the marketplace. You will carry a quota for revenue generated through partnerships against our annual operating plan, and will be compensated for achieving/exceeding quota, in addition to other strategic and tactical management objectives. This is an ideal job for a business development professional with at least 5 years of deal structuring and revenue-generating experience, who wants to be part of a rapidly growing startup working within the utility technology ecosystem, wants ownership over helping to scale a business through partnerships, and desires to create value for our business, our partners, and our clients.


Responsibilities
• Full responsibility for understanding the utility industry energy efficiency, AMI, and smart-grid ecosystem, and how best to increase value to our utility clients through partnerships.
• Work closely with the OPOWER's CEO, President, VP of Client Solutions, VP of Product, and Senior Director of Marketing and Strategy to identify strategic initiatives and then execute on these initiatives.
• Full BD lifecycle management- identifying key partners and their technologies, developing relationships, structuring and negotiating deals, and ensuring the deals yield value.
• You will own understanding of the competitive landscape for the business.
• Annual quota for revenue generated through partnerships.


About You
• You love figuring out how different companies can combine capabilities and technologies, and make 1 + 1 = 3, all while creating value for our clients.
• You understand Energy Efficiency, AMI, and Smart Grid technologies, particularly on the demand side, and where the marketplace in going.
• You know that a great strategy is not worth much without diligent and flawless execution.
• Traveling 30% - 50% of the time to uncover who we should be partnering with and developing those relationships is where you do your best work.
• You have relationships within the utility marketplace, particularly around Energy Efficiency and Smart Grid initiatives.
• You have a BA/BS from a top university and/or an MBA.
• You function well in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change is the norm and the bar for delivering results is set high.
