The DRS Signal Solutions Open Architecture Products group endeavors to be the performance-value leader in developing, marketing, and manufacturing of products that redefine and extend the limits of high-performance tuner, receiver, and processing solutions for the SIGINT, Instrumentation, Information Assurance and niche Telemetry and Telecommunications markets.

 
We operate on a 9/80 work schedule, all employees work 80 hrs in 9 days and have every other Friday off. 
Title: Software Engineer III

SUMMARY

Assists in the modification, design, development, documentation, testing, and maintenance of complex software related to the Open Architecture Products group based on a set of given requirements. These assignments are subject to time and cost constraints, and are usually performed with the assistance of a technical lead or mentor.

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
Technical Knowledge:

    * Knows and uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures to meet requirements.
    * Has a basic understanding of primary engineering field and clearly demonstrates this understanding in these specific areas:
         1. Software programming to develop, test, and document software for embedded systems using the C/C++ language.
         2. Should be familiar with object-oriented design methodology and implementation.
         3. Exposure to embedded real-time multitasking applications (e.g. Intel or Motorola microprocessors).
         4. Experience with various operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
         5. QT graphics, Java, Python, CVS/SVN, and Lab View desired.

Design and Development Responsibilities:

    * In conjunction with the above:
         1. Participates in development efforts with the assistance of technical lead or mentor.
         2. Makes every effort to complete tasks on schedule and on budget.
         3. Understands and carries out engineering and ISO practices and procedures used in the design process.

Team/Interpersonal Skills:

    * In team environments, actively participates and is a productive member. 

Communication Skills:

    * Communicates verbally with co-workers and supervisors in a clear manner. Uses written communications as a supplement.

Customer Interaction:

·         Must be able to assist in preparing technical descriptions, schedules and estimates for proposals.

 

Business Responsibilities:

    * Begins to develop market knowledge.
    * Begins to assess technical risk.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

    * Bachelors degree, or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.
    * Minimum of 3-5 years of Software development experience.
    * Good communication skills.
    * US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a security clearance is required.
