Our premier financial services client has two immediate openings for Production Support Engineering.
Location: Rockville, MD, Duration: 12 months+, Positions Needed: 2
Position Details:
Work Schedule: This will be the night shift as of Q3 2010, but will be the first shift until then.
Each slot is a 3 day work week, 13 hour day. For example; M/T/W night 7PM to 8:30AM (includes break time) and Th/F/Sa night 7PM to 8:30AM (includes break time).
Work Description:
· The new consultant will be a member of a 4 person team responsible for day to day management and operation of a real time reporting and quoting platform.
· The application and hardware will be remotely located at two distant sites, connected to the client site and to each other by WAN.
· This team will be responsible for daily start up and operation of the application, and for nightly shut down and nightly processing of file transfers, batch, and backup.
· All repairs or troubles will be the responsibility of this team to resolve directly or via vendor or hosting facility remote hands assistance.
· This team will also be responsible for supporting all internal application and business user requests for support, questions, relevant reporting, etc.
The members of this team will be responsible for all admin services on these systems, all documentation, all monitoring and alerting, all scheduling, all test support, basically all technical duties will fall to these folks.
Technical Environment: Intel hardware, Vmware, Microsoft OS and SQL, Oracle, Red Hat Linux, Symantec NetBackup, Nagios, IBM Datastage, Cadis, Cisco, TCP/IP, Multicast, Unicast, Firewalls, VLAN, EMC Clarion and related tools, Java applications, .Net applications, web servers, SharePoint
Skills Required:
· The successful candidate will have experience working within a large, time and/or business critical environment for a for profit firm, preferably in the financial industry.
· The successful candidates will have experience working with the above listed technologies, and will be able to demonstrate current knowledge as well as capability to learn those skills or technologies which may be new.
· Our client desires to hire staff who have ability with scripting and programming to the extent they can help develop automation/tools/reports/scripts during free time to continually push automation into the environment.
· The successful candidate will also be required to be able to develop clear, concise, proper English Standard Operating Procedures, technical documents, notes, and other related documents.
· Clear and proper English writing and verbal skills are required.
Soft skills required:
· Self starter, self managing, high personal standards for quality, high self expectations, good team member, punctual, reliable, flexible, able to compromise when required but assertive enough to propose and define new positions or direction.
· Able to work in areas of gray/dynamic situations, while accepting there are some black and white rules we all will have to live by as we operate this platform.
· Able to work under stress in event of system issues while making clear decisions leading to rapid recovery of necessary services.
As a side note:
Our client anticipates this environment to be fairly busy with technical duties for the first several months. As things reach a normal rhythm, expectations are that daily routines will emerge. Scripting skills to push automation into the environment is required. Especially at night, these skills will be important as there will be more free time at night in general, once things get into a normal rhythm.
