(Restructured Position). Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Technology Integration in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, this position is fully immersed in the daily IT operations of the Krieger School, including supervision of a team of technical staff supporting research / scientific, academic / instructional, and administrative applications. This position may receive assistance from individuals with particular technical expertise, but is considered the lead (go-to) KSAS technical representative on major, large-scale, cross-cutting IT implementations (such as ISIS, Digital Measures, server virtualization, systems security, etc).
With a broad understanding of state-of-the-art technology utilization (hardware and software) in a higher education environment, this individual advises the Senior Associate Dean in all aspects of IT implementation, integration and usage, and is responsible for identifying overall and individual IT needs, researching and recommending cost effective solutions, developing best practices and usage policies, and providing daily direction to the KSAS IT staff.
As the supervisor of IT operations, this position advises the Senior Associate Dean on issues impacting the School and functions as the lead project manager and lead facilitator on school-wide implementations, providing broad direction to individuals with specific technical expertise.
This position also advises faculty and staff on the most effective utilization of KSAS’ IT resources (personnel and technical) thereby positively impacting the School’s academic (teaching and research) and administrative performance. The position will be assigned fiscal oversight of a KSAS IT budget, TBD. This individual is expected to maintain technical currency regarding the trends and directions of IT usage in higher education. Functioning as the IT representative on relevant committees internal and external to KSAS will enable this individual to provide useful guidance to the KSAS faculty and staff and to the Senior Associate Dean. This individual must have broad and current IT knowledge, as well as previous experience as an IT user, implementer and project manager.
It is assumed that the position: • Maintains a broad base and high level of current knowledge with respect to IT usage and project management of IT implementations by attending JHU meetings, reading current IT literature, and participating in users’ groups and professional development meetings on current IT topics. • Maintains close and regular contact and idea exchange with IT staff in KSAS, IT@JH and in the IT community at-large. • Keeps current with a general knowledge of technology developments, shifts and patterns of usage at other comparable institutions.
Supervision (both direct and indirect) of a diverse group of IT professionals (approximately 20 individuals) requires considerable supervisory skills and experience. This position is responsible for the general management and coordination of the KSAS IT Discipline Specialists who work directly in the various academic and administrative departments, providing support and guidance to the group and its end users. This position provides input on the assessment and prioritization of KSAS’ technological and IT staffing needs, taking both proactive and innovative approaches to problem resolution. As an aggregator and disseminator of information, this position works closely with the Senior Associate Dean to represent the IT needs of the KSAS faculty and staff to the larger university community.

Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with at least 5 years related experience working with issues surrounding the use of information technology in a multi-disciplinary environment. Requires knowledge of multiple computer platforms and operating systems such as UNIX, Windows, and MAC operating systems and SQL servers, as well as an understanding of networking, security/firewalls. Additional education can substitute for some experience. Additional experience can substitute for some education. Equivalency Formula: 30 undergradute degree credits or 18 graduate degree credits = 1 year of experience.
Must be able to organize, prioritize, track and lead multiple projects and tasks and deliver updates and results on a timely basis to the Senior Associate Dean and other constituencies within the school. Previous, multi-personnel supervisory experience is required, as well as the ability to work well with diverse constituencies, both independently and as a team member. Must be a self-starter with the judgment to align one’s own priorities with those of his/her supervisor. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, are a must. Prior experience in higher education is preferred.
