Position Summary

This individual should have a good understanding of Satellite communications as well as having some NET Promina training. You will spend all of your time working in the country of Oman, operating and maintaining SATCOM Equipment and /or a Technical Control Facility.  This position will require shift work and overtime on an as needed basis.  This position is located in Thurmait, Oman.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Operate and maintain satellite communication terminals; operate and maintain  DS3 microwave link´s; operate and maintain a Promina 400 or 800 node; maintain master station log (MSL) and annotate all significant events; provide weekly and monthly reports for DRS; maintain inventories for site equipment to include test equipment; ensure site cleanliness and serviceability of all support equipment.

 

Basic Qualifications

General Experience:  Minimum of six (6) years of "hands on" work experience in support of installations, repair, and troubleshooting or maintenance of communications systems or equipment.  Must have the technical knowledge to solve complex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of communications systems or equipment.

 

Education:  The Technician must meet one of the following educational requirements:

Associates degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology; completion of formal resident trade school or apprentice program in electronics; completion of at least three (3) U.S. Military schools in electronic communications equipment or systems, and Grade E-6 or equivalent.

 

Ability to conduct Technical Control Facility (TCF) operations using the following equipment:

 

Promina 400/800; Tellabs Transcoder (T-Coder); CISCO Routers; Canoga Perkins Fiber-Optic Multiplex Unit; Canoga Perkins Fiber Modems; Tactical TA-1042 Digital Non-secure Voice Terminals; DNE AN/FCC-100 Low Speed Multiplex Units; Nortel Passport, Optera; KG, KY, KIV & Ancillaries; MD-1026 Tactical Group Modem; ADC Campus-RS Line Driver Modems; TrueTime Time and Frequency Transceiver; DNE CV-2048 NRZ to CDI Converters; ATM Timeplex CSX 1500; DNE CV-8448 CDI Converters; ADC DataSmart CSU/DSU;  Video Decoding Equipment.

 
Individual should have a broad range of experience and education covering the total spectrum of telecommunications management; satellite Terminal Maintenance Experience;  RF signal flow experience; knowledge of Satellite Bandwidth management; basic knowledge of IT/Networking signal flow (Router, Switch addressing, ATM, etc.); basic knowledge of DISA reporting and provisioning structure; ability to react to rapidly changing critical scenarios; ability to adapt to a rapidly changing telecommunications environment. Must be computer literate with experience in MS Office.

 
Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

Specialized Experience:  Personnel in this labor category are considered experts in the field.  Minimum of five years experience working with DSCS or Commercial Satellite Terminals as specified in the delivery order to include:

 

X, C, Ku-band, Tri-band Satellite Terminals; DMD-15/20, SLM-8650, CDM-600 satellite modems
